Multimedia System Project - Documentation

  • Problem Definition
We need to create a system that displays information about 'Multimedia Systems' through different forms of mediums (text, image, video, audio, animation). The project will include these sections:
The characteristics of multimedia system
The Hardware Requirements Of Multimedia
Examples Of Multimedia Systems
Creating and Displaying Multimedia
Processes in Multimedia Systems
Issues Related to Multimedia Systems

In simple terms, we need to create a multimedia system about 'multimedia systems'.

  • Research (requirements of the system)
Questions to satisfy the project:
  1. Identify how the interactive aspects of the system control the presentation of the information.
  2. Identify multimedia software appropriate to manipulating particular types of data.
  3. What are the current information technology requirements for multimedia systems?
  4. What are different approaches to animation?
  5. What are the required skills and roles of the people who designs the multimedia system?
  6. Who are the participants, and what are the data/information and information technology in a multimedia system? What is the relationship between them?
  7. Are there any factors that will influence the design of a multimedia system?
  8. How effective is a multimedia system within a context?
  9. Has the introduction of the World Wide Web affected the developments that have led to multimedia?
  10. How does hardware devices and/or software impact on the presentation of multimedia?
  11. What are the the techniques for collecting, storing and displaying different forms of media?
  12. What are the processes of designing and creating a multimedia system?
  13. What are the file formats used for different mediums? How do they differ?

  • Constraints (time, financial, social, ethical, technological, skill)
  1. Time - time management may sometimes be simple or complex. We have allocated the work load so that we manage to complete the task effectively. Time is critical for the project's success, hence it would affect us and the processes we undertake to finish the system.
  2. Financial - Our financial position is not as significant as time, for it only has an insignificant impact on the project. What we require in the system are basic software and hardware: Wikispaces, paint and other editing applications, google images, etc. These sites and software do not need any financial requirements as it is free of charge; they are sites and applications for public use. The hardware devices we have used are the basic computer devices: mouse, keyboard, monitor (which are conveniently available).
  3. Social - This aspect is vital to be noted because it is significant for the system to work. The multimedia system project is a group project where each team member is required to share and make a fair contribution. Conflicts and disagreements may arise which would affect greatly on the project, for the system won't develop if the developers are disagreeing. The process of completing the system could stop. Communication is therefore an important part in maintaining and resolving conflict: active listening, good negotiating skills, etc.
  4. Ethical - The ethical constraint encourages us to ensure copyrights of our sources. We would need to acknowledge our information and resources. Accuracy, validity, and reliability are vital.
  5. Technological - The software and hardware devices we need are those that our computers support. Whereas, I'm using an apple computer and Claudia is using a PC.
  6. Skill - Knowing how the software and hardware work, and having an adequate understanding the other constraints is needed for this system.
